Hello,
Today was a great day, as the Grade 6 students got together to work on graphing Math Centres and to plan for their literature circles.
First, our class finished our graphic organizers for the various types of graphs, then we got together with the other class to complete four of the eight graphing centres. The students examined bar graphs, double bar graphs, pictographs, line graphs, stem and leaf plots, scatter plots and circle graphs. Some of the activities involved creating their own surveys, while others required the students to examine pre-existing data. We will give students the opportunity to finish this morning's centres tomorrow morning, then we will move on to the next set of centres.
Finally, the students were given their literature circle novels and they got together with their groups to decide how many pages they will read each week, in order to finish the novel by February 14. The students are asked to read 30 minutes each evening. Each student is reading one of the following novels: The Lightning Thief, Wonder, City of Ember, Star Girl, Ruby Kingdom, Gregor the Overlander, Holes and Chomp. The groups of 4-5 students will get together to share their thoughts about their books on Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 7 and Feb. 14. We hope everyone enjoys their books.
Have a good night.
Mr. Skinner
