Hello,
I hope everyone has had a wonderful start to 2014.
The week definitely got off to an interesting start on Monday, with the Snow/Ice Day. I hope that all of you had safe travels, or were able to stay off the roads and enjoy the day at home with your families.
It has been great to have everyone back in the classroom over the last two days. On Tuesday, we worked with the other Grade 6 class on problems involving mean, median and mode. Then we played Redeemer Battleship, which involved learning about plotting ordered pairs on a graph. Next, we went to the learning commons to exchange our library books. Finally, during lunch, the students watched the announcement of Team Canada's Men's Olympic hockey team on the SmartBoard. Everyone was excited to see who would be selected for the team. We can hardly wait for the puck to be dropped in Sochi.
Today, we wrapped up our lessons on mean, median and mode and completed an exit card activity. Then we read a story called Square and Fair. The students were asked to make notes as they read, summarize the main ideas of the story and infer what the author's intended message was for his audience. We will continue to work on this task in class on Thursday morning. Ask your children what the story was about - I really hope they can tell you more than just "Chocolate."
Have a great evening.
Mr. Skinner
